3. Process Work

Task 2 (A)

Ideation:

First off, we were tasked to make a mind map to get an idea on the direction of how we wanted our wordmark to look. At first I did not know what kind of wordmark I wanted and tried various styles

However, I received feedback that my references was not enough and it did not follow my keyword that I chose but my tutor mentioned he did find one of the wordmark interesting so I tried exploring more on that.

I searched for more references from Pinterests. These are the references of what I had in mind.

I sketched my ideas into the mind map based off of these references and added my own spin into it.

I had to pick 1 out of these wordmarks I made so I asked my friends for opinions on what they would think looks the best and the final decision was this.

My tutor was fine with my wordmark and told me to just fix certain parts like how the side of the 'N' was extended too high and to try to adjust a little bit on the arch so it looks more visible and clean.

I followed his advice and also made my layout of how the images would look on my Instagram.

After making the final digitalization wordmark, it was approved. I then moved on to creating the color palettes.

Then I started on my animation using Adobe Illustrator and then imported the frames into Photoshop.

I made a storyboard of how I wanted my animation to look and then executed it in Adobe Illustrator.

4. Feedback

Week 5

Specific Feedback

My tutor gave me multiple advices on how I could properly explore on my ideas and gave me suggestions like how charismatic isn't just cool but it can be bold and stable yet striking. During the feedback, he made some funny jokes about my exploration and it gave me a few more ideas and make it funny as how everyone laughed at my explanation.

General Feedback

My tutor said that we have to complete our final Key Artwork to progess to the next step by next week.

Week 6

Specific Feedback

My tutor said I had to fix some parts of my design. He gave me some suggestions like making the wordmark fit properly in a rectangle box and that I could make the bottom of the wordmark look like it is curving slightly which I was going for.

General Feedback

This week he reviewed everyones work and had us refine it more.

Week 7

Specific Feedback

This week my tutor said that I my wordmark was good and the parts I had to fix were the layout of my instagram grids. He said that the picture I chose was slightly too contrasting to see my wordmark and I should try using the method of making the wordmark behind myself. Then he added on that I should explore more on my product designs since they were too simple.

General Feedback

My tutor said that we should finish up our wordmark after he checked everyone's work.

Week 8

Specific Feedback

My tutor mentioned that I used my wordmark too much in my grids.

General Feedback

He briefed us on the final task and to start on making the proposal by next week.

5. Reflections

Experience

It was quite challenging as some of my ideas and designs were rejected, requiring me to redo several parts. However, this experience taught me to better identify the gaps in my thinking and creative approach. I’ve come to understand the importance of building a strong foundation first, before experimenting and expanding on ideas.

Observation

I frequently supported my peers by offering constructive feedback and suggesting ways to enhance their work. This collaborative process was both rewarding and insightful, as it allowed me to witness their growth while gaining fresh perspectives for my own projects. I also welcomed their input on my work, which often inspired new ideas and approaches.

Findings

After receiving feedback from my tutor, I significantly improved my design skills and problem-solving approach. I’ve learned that every design requires a strong foundation to build upon, allowing ideas to grow, evolve, and become more refined through exploration.

6. Further Readings

Figure 4.0 Ideas: Computer Typography Basics (Week 9, 18/6/2025)

While reading through these pages on typography, I learned about the importance of text scaling, font effects, and font sizing in design. I discovered that stretching fonts horizontally or vertically can distort their original design, so it’s better to use true condensed or extended versions when available. It was also interesting to learn how effects like outline and shadow, which were once popular, are now considered outdated if overused. Modern design tools offer more refined ways to apply these effects.

The section on font sizes helped me understand how type is measured in points, with 72 points equaling one inch. I also learned that even fonts at the same point size can look different depending on their style. Generally, body text should be between 9–12 points, but the ideal size depends on the font, the audience, and the layout. This made me more aware of how crucial font size is for readability and how small text can negatively affect the user’s experience.
