Task 2
Research
The main idea that popped up into my mind was to make the background look
depressing and lifeless. So I began my research on Pinterest and found a
couple of illustrations and images.
Some of the background images I had found were almost what I wanted my
composition to look like. I decided to combine Figure 3 and Figure 5 for how
the background in my composition should be.

Figure 2 Slender Trees Picture
Figure 3 Trees and Flowers
Figure 4 Evangelion Illustration 普普不痛
Ideation
Sketch
After finding the images, I had a much more clearer vision of the landscape in
mind, so I started by creating my sketch.
Figure 5 My Composition Sketch
I showed Mr. Hafiz my sketch and he asked me what I wanted portray from this
composition and after explaining the backstory which corelates to the
composition, Mr Hafiz approved my work and allowed me to proceed with my work
in digitalizing it into Adobe Illustrator.
Process
Figure 6 Sky, Clouds and land
I started with the sky since it is the first thing to do when starting a
background with a sky and I added some simple clouds for a far perspective
look. Then I added the land.
Figure 7 Trees
After that, I added light grey of trees at the back of the background then
added the mid tone grey trees on the middle part of the land. Then lastly, I
added a slightly darker shade of grey on the foreground.
Figure 8 Crows
Then I drew out the three crows with some gradients added.
Figure 9 Dead Plants
I added many dead plants and other details which did not take too long.
Figure 10 Added Particles and Trees
Finally, I added the final details with the dust particles and a one more
layer of trees with the color black to make it fuller. A slight gradient in
the atmosphere was added at the top of the composition to make it seem humid
and cold.
Final Outcome
Figure 11 Final Composition
I added my character into the background for the final touch and greyed her
out so she looks more fit into the environment.
Figured 12 Final Pokemon Card Composition
I also made the Pokemon card and described her abilities.
Story/Worldbuilding
Nymphis was a nymph (nature deities from Greek folklores) who lived with her
kind in a beautiful forest away from other species. One day, Nymphis
stumbled on a young human who was lost in their forest. The Nymphis knew the
human did not mean any harm to the nymphs, so she helped the human and
became friends with them. Unfortunately, their friendship was found out by
the lords of the nymphs and declared that she should relinquish her
friendship with the human. However, Nymphis retaliated the order and was
punished into the reflection tree (prison). The human who was friends with
her found out that she was imprisoned and tried to save her. As the human
helped Nymphis escape the reflection tree, they were greeted with the nymph
lord and his guards. Outraged by the fact the human had invaded their forest
and even tried escaping with Nymphis, he ordered an execution of the human.
Nymphis and the human tried escaping the guards but in the end the human got
shot by an arrow that was aimed at Nymphis and died.
Nymphis held the cold body of her friend. She wailed as her friend died in
her arms. Her world fell apart as she turned into a dark nymph. Enraged by
the death of her friend she sought to destroy her kind who turned their
backs on her after being friends with a human. In the end, rage consumed her
as she destroys her home leaving no one alive.
Now she views the world meaningless and empty feeling nothing as she now
roams the world without a final destination.
Reflection
I enjoyed making my character and thinking of compositions that would fit my character. This assignment helped me get more used to Adobe Illustrator which was fun. I am proud of my final work because I spent a lot of time thinking and effort into making it how I envisioned it. Though I still have much to improve on, I am still happy with the results of my efforts.
