    Reflection

    Experience

Throughout this module, I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions which was from self-doubt to satisfaction. At the beginning, I was genuinely worried that I wouldn’t enjoy the creative process or that my work wouldn’t meet expectations. However, as I began working on the first exercise, those concerns slowly faded. Designing for the exercise was surprisingly enjoyable, and that set a positive tone moving forward. Task 1 posed a new challenge but I was unsure of what direction to take. Eventually, I chose an image of a dead plant in a flower pot, which became the foundation of my concept. The process of combining this image with extracted letterforms was straightforward, and it gave me more confidence in trusting my instincts. Task 2, however, was frustrating. I struggled with getting my wordmark approved, and that caused delays and self-doubt. Once I found the right concept and got the green light, creating the animation became the fun part. I designed it to reflect the keywords "weird" and "fun," and seeing it come to life gave me a genuine sense of amusement. By the time I reached Task 3, I was both nervous and excited. The freedom to design a font that was personally meaningful came with the pressure of limitless possibilities. After refining my ideas, I chose the most challenging one. Designing the font and making it resemble my references was tough, but satisfying. The hardest part was importing the font into FontForge and kerning every single letter. It was an incredibly tedious process that took days to complete. Finally, creating the presentation and application designs brought everything together.

    Observations

I noticed that my initial anxiety often came from fear of rejection or uncertainty. However, once I engaged with each task and allowed myself to explore creatively, the process became more enjoyable. My creative confidence seemed to grow gradually with each task. The second task taught me that creative blocks are common, and approval doesn’t come instantly. I learned that feedback, even if critical, helped push my work toward a more solid direction. The animation task was a turning point in terms of fun and creative expression. It reminded me not to take things too seriously all the time. In Task 3, I observed how giving myself a challenge led to both frustration and personal growth. The font design, though difficult, became something I could take pride in. The tediousness of kerning made me appreciate the technical side of type design more than I initially expected.

    Findings

From this module, I discovered that the fear of failure often holds me back more than the tasks themselves. Once I start working, I realize that I’m capable of adapting and problem-solving even when I feel lost. Each challenge helped shape my creative process and built my resilience. I found that creative constraints, such as theme restrictions or design limitations can actually spark new ideas, but too much freedom can sometimes be overwhelming. Giving myself boundaries helped me focus my thinking. Most importantly, I learned that the most rewarding projects are often the hardest. Task 3, despite being the most demanding, became my favourite because it tested my limits and allowed me to fully immerse in my own concept. Completing it gave me not only a product I was proud of, but also a stronger sense of creative identity.
